Digital pass for members or employees: perks recognized at every partner business
An association, a business improvement area or an employer wants to give perks to a group: its members, its staff, the people who work in a neighbourhood. The ARSOM digital pass puts that card in every holder’s phone, recognized at every partner business, with no app and no plastic card.
Key takeaways
- The pass lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet: holders get it through a link or a QR code, with no app to install.
- Each partner business checks the pass by scanning it or at a glance, then applies the agreed perk.
- The organization sends notifications to all holders or to a segment: new partner, offer of the month, event.
- Every use is counted: the organization knows which partners get visited and how many holders are active.
- Deployed for a Montreal business improvement area, for the employees of the businesses on its territory.
Who the digital pass is for
The digital pass is for organizations that want to give a defined group perks across several businesses: business improvement areas, associations, professional orders, employers, campuses. The group gets a card in their phone; partners recognize it.
| Organization | Holders | Perk |
|---|---|---|
| Business improvement area | Employees of the businesses on the street | Discounts at member businesses, to keep lunch hour in the neighbourhood |
| Employer | Staff | Perks negotiated with the businesses around the workplace |
| Association, order, club | Members in good standing | Proof of membership and exclusive offers at partners |
| Campus, event | Students, attendees | Access and discounts during the validity period |
The most complete case today: a Montreal business improvement area gives every employee of the businesses on its territory a pass that unlocks perks at member businesses. The people who work in the neighbourhood become its customers.
How the pass works
The organization shares a sign-up link or QR code; the holder creates the pass and adds it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. At a partner, they show the pass; the business scans or checks it, then applies the perk. Every use is recorded.
- Issue: the organization gets a sign-up link and QR code to share (email, poster, intranet, employers). The pass carries the organization’s name, logo and colours.
- Activate: the holder enters their name and email, then taps “Add to Apple Wallet” or “Add to Google Wallet”. No password, no app.
- Use: at a partner, the holder shows the pass. The business scans it with the ARSOM scan screen or checks it visually, and applies the agreed perk.
- Engage: the organization sends notifications to holders (new partner, offer of the month, neighbourhood event) that show on the lock screen, with no app.
- Track: the dashboard shows active passes, uses per partner and per period, and the effect of each notification.
It is the same technology as our loyalty cards by business type: a Wallet card updated remotely, a scan screen that works on any phone, and targeted notifications.
What partner businesses see
Each partner business gets access to the scan screen, on its own phone or tablet. It scans the pass, sees that it is valid and which perk applies, and the use is recorded under its name. Nothing to install, no long training.
For a business, the pass must cost no time: a few seconds at checkout. Two modes, depending on the partner:
- Scan: the partner has an ARSOM scan screen account (one per business). The use is counted and attributed to that business, so the organization can measure traffic partner by partner.
- Visual check: for partners who prefer not to handle anything, the pass shows the organization’s logo, the holder’s name and its validity. A glance is enough.
Perks can differ from one partner to the next (10% here, a free coffee there) and change over time: the pass updates in every phone with nothing to reinstall.
What the organization controls
From the dashboard, the organization manages partners and their perks, sends notifications to all holders or to a segment (active, inactive, never used), updates the pass design, and tracks uses per business and per period.
- Notifications: a message on holders’ lock screens, with an offer attached if wanted. It is the most direct channel to a group that does not read its email.
- Automated nudges: a reminder to holders who have not used their pass for a while, a birthday note, recognition for the most active.
- Measurement: passes issued, active passes, uses per partner, effect of each notification. These are the numbers that justify the program to members and partners.
- Compliance: explicit consent at sign-up, processing compliant with Quebec’s Law 25, no data resold.
Launching a digital pass
A pass launches in a few weeks: perks defined with partners, pass designed in the organization’s colours, scan accounts created for partners, then the sign-up link shared with the group. ARSOM supports every step, in French or English, in Montreal.
- Perks: which offer at which partner, for how long.
- Pass: logo, colours, wording, validity period.
- Partners: one scan account per business, a short training, a “Pass accepted here” sign.
- Roll-out: sign-up link and QR code sent to the group by the organization or the employers.
- Engagement: at least one notification a month, so the pass stays alive.
Pricing depends on the number of holders and partners: book a call and tell us the size of your group and we will come back with a proposal.
Frequently asked questions
What is a digital pass for members or employees?
A membership or employee card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, issued by an organization (association, business improvement area, employer) and recognized at its partner businesses to unlock a perk: a discount, a free item, access. It replaces the plastic card and the app.
How does a partner business check the pass?
The holder shows the pass on their phone; the business scans it with the ARSOM scan screen, on any phone or tablet, or checks the card and its validity visually. The scan records the use, so traffic can be tracked per partner.
How do holders get their pass?
Through a sign-up link or QR code shared by the organization (email, poster, employer). The holder enters their name and email, then adds the pass to their Wallet.
Can the pass expire or be renewed?
Yes. The perks carried by the pass can have an end date, and the pass itself updates remotely: new design, new period, new partners, with nothing for the holder to reinstall.
How much does an ARSOM digital pass cost?
Pricing depends on the number of holders and partner businesses, and on the support wanted (onboarding, partner training). It is quoted per project: write to us with the size of your group and the number of partners.
